How to maintain your Aluminium Manhole Covers
For items spilled or stuck to the aluminium frame we would suggest warm mild soapy water with no harsh detergents. Also using a soft cloth to prevent scratches.
To polish up the aluminium edge and to remove scratches
- Take a grinding block for metal with a fine Grit
- P220 is recommended
- Rub lightly on the visable aluminum edge for a new lease of life
- Do a test first on the bottom of the cover to perfect your technique
- Make sure you do this job dry
- You will immediately see a difference.
Other things to consider
- Keep screw areas clear of debris by hoovering regularly (Interior) or brushing (Exterior)
- Keep cover caps in place to help keep debris out of lifting/screw holes.
- When the cover is lifted make a visual inspect of neoprene seals
- Neoprene seals can also be cleaned with a mild soap solution and a soft cloth if dirty
- Keep your keys safe
- Ensure you insert screws carefully and fully to ensure a secure lift, remember when the recessed tray is filled it may be heavy. Careful insertion will prevent the lifting area and keys becoming threaded over time.
