How to Assemble your fruit cage:
- Choose a suitable location. Ideally the ground should be reasonably flat and pre-prepared, particularly where the feet will be set. This will make it easier to insert tubes into the ground.
- Gently tap/twist the plastic spiked feet into the 16mm tubes until fully located to the shoulder of the feet. Note: feet are designed to be a tight fit to prevent coming loose in soil. If having trouble fully locating, file inside of tube and/or apply washing up liquid/other lubricant to the spike before inserting.
- Push the ‘Build a Ball’ connector balls onto the other end of the 16mm tubes – the tube will locate into roughly the middle of the ball. (Note: Build a Balls have 1 x 16mm hole and 5 x 12.65mm holes).
- Lay the 12mm (smaller diameter) tubes on the ground in a square / rectangle to form a template for your cage. At each corner, push the 16mm tubes – feet first – into the ground to a depth of 20- 100+mm of the tube, depending on soil type/consistency. Make sure the tubes are angled inwards slightly – about 15 degrees towards the centre of the template. This will ensure positive pressure on the Build a Balls when the other tubes are attached.
- Insert each of the 12mm tubes into the Build a Ball holes to form the cage frame.
- Please note: our netting may initially appear smaller than your cage frame as it is compressed in production. However, it is designed to be stretched sideways/by width to cover your area while maintaining correct mesh diameter for protecting crops. To assemble: pin net on one side, stretch and unroll net over the cage, pull tight, fold corners neatly and pin down on other sides.
- Space plastic pegs evenly around the cage and push into the ground to secure bottom of the net
